Disney Honors Students
Disney recently honored 100 students as "Dreamers and Doers" during a 25th anniversary ceremony of the program at Walt Disney World Resort. The award acknowledged outstanding students who make a difference through volunteer service in Central Florida. A panel of community leaders and Walt Disney World Cast Members selected the finalists and three top Shining Stars from nearly 400 students nominated by schools throughout Orange, Lake, Polk, Osceola and Seminole Counties. Th e recipients of the 2008 Disney Shining Star Award were: fifth-grade student Emma O'Halloran , who has volunteered more than 500 hours to a wide range of community organizations and projects; seventh-grader Corey Warner, who is trying to launch his own nonprofit organization to raise awareness for abused and neglected children and has volunteered more than 3,000 hours with Children's Home Society; and high school junior Tyler Freeze, who has cerebral palsy, yet still sings in his church choir, reigns as a member of the homecoming court and serves as a tutor. All 400 Disney Dreamers and Doers received four theme park tickets, a certificate and a special pin. The 100 finalists also received a Disney Dreamers and Doers medallion. In addition, the three Disney Shining Star Award recipients received a Mickey Mouse statue along with Walt Disney World Annual Passes for themselves and their immediate families.
